The "Cathay Pacific Gale Well Hong Kong Squash Open 2009" a sporting extravaganza featuring the world's best players, will once again take place at the world's most vibrant city this autumn.

The 2009 event will be held from October 12 -18, with start at Hong Kong Squash Centre in Admiralty before moving across the harbour to Plaza Hollywood in Kowloon when reaching the final stages.

Presented by Hong Kong Squash, the week-long tournament has attracted a strong field of men and women's professionals as the Hong Kong event has been the first ever open tournament that combines both competitions.

This year, the world's top 30 players from the Women's International Squash Players Association (WISPA) as well as the Professional Squash Association (PSA) will return to Hong Kong for a lucrative winning purse HK$1.6 million.

A state-of-the-art glass court will be set up in the Star Atrium of Plaza Hollywood, one of the busiest shopping malls in Hong Kong, for the tournament's semi-finals and finals stages. People from all walks of life are welcome to view the top class event when shopping at the mall, while players will also encounter special experience of performing their great skills in front of a big crowd.

The Hong Kong Open is always popular with the local and international squash community. A large contingent of players, coaches, families, fans and international media will follow the event and enjoy this spectacular event in Hong Kong.
