Diego Elias
Description
Peruvian Diego Elias is one of the most gifted youngsters on the world tour, and has already become one of the best ever South Americans to have played the game. After joining the world tour in 2013, Elias would lift his first title a year later at the Regatas Resistencia Open-Tour De Las Americas where he stunned the crowd despite being a wildcard for the event. In doing so, Elias became the first Peruvian to win a world tour title. After recovering from an injury which kept him out for the first half of 2021, Elias returned with a quarter-final result at the World Championships. He then made history later in the year, by becoming the first man from his country to claim a major title to win the Qatar QTerminals Classic. That win pushed him into the top five of the world rankings for the first time in his career. Elias started 2022 in perfect fashion, claiming the Sturbridge Capital Motor City Open and added to his title tally later in the season though, with an incredible run at the Necker Mauritius Open as he came through the entirety of the gold level tournament without dropping a game, beating England’s Mohamed ElShorbagy in the final.
