Tong Tsz-wing lifted the Asian squash title in 2021 to become the second women’s regional champion from Hong Kong after Annie Au Wing-chi.
The 29-year-old upset second-seeded Malaysian Rachel Arnold 3-0 in the final in Islamabad, Pakistan to capture the prestigious title – eight years after Au’s victory in 2013.
Tsz-Wing joined the world tour in 2008 and has risen up the rankings ever since, becoming a consistent member of the world’s top 50 in recent years.
She secured her first title at the Top End Open in 2014 when she beat Lotte Eriksen in straight games.
More success came in 2016 for her as she lifted the China Challenge Cup beating Sarah Cardwell over four games in the final. Tsz-Wing she also went onto win the Malaysian Squash Tour VIII in 2017 when she came through in four against Andrea Lee.
The Hongkonger reached the final of the Steel City South Australian Open in her first appearances of the 2019-2020 campaign. She won the Haining Squash Open just a month later, before also reaching the last eight of the Jaipur Leg of the HCL SRFI Indian Tour at the start of 2020.
In the trio of events on Hong Kong soil at the start of 2021, Tong made at least the last eight in all of them, including reaching the final of the Hong Kong Football Club PSA. Later in the year, she also made the semi-finals of the Capra Baerum Open, before reaching the quarter finals of the London Open.
