Hong Kong Squash Open 2023 begins, with home players Chan Sin Yuk Simmi and Lau Tsz Kwan Alex reaching Round 2

Organized by Squash Association of Hong Kong, China, sole title-sponsored by TTI Milwaukee, the prestigious “TTI Milwaukee Hong Kong Squash Open 2023” kicked off today at the Hong Kong Squash Centre. A total of 9 Hong Kong, China players attended the Round 1 Men’s and Women’s matches, with Chan Sin Yuk Simmi and Lau Tsz Kwan Alex successfully advanced to the next round.

Women’s 17/32 seed Ho Tze Lok Tomato met her compatriot, Chan Sin Yuk Simmi in Round 1, which was the third time between them this year, after the Semi-finals of the Asian Individual Championships and Asian Games. Chan Sin Yuk Simmi took the lead in the opening game at 11-4, then won 11-8 and 11-4 in a row and secured herself into the second round in just 22 minutes. Simmi will face another 17/32 seed, Jasmine Hutton from England tomorrow, her first time to reach the round of 32 in the Hong Kong Open.

And the current Hong Kong Champion, unseeded Lau Tsz Kwan Alex met his old opponent, the 17/32 seed, Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi from Qatar in a week. Alex continued to perform well in front of the home crowd and fought into a tough 5 setters battle again, Alex eventually won 3-2 (7-11, 12-10, 13-11, 6-11, 11-9) after 64 minutes fight.

Besides, other home players, Leung Chi Hin Henry, Tang Ming Hong, Lai Cheuk Nam Matthew, Tong Tsz Wing, Lee Ka Yi and Cheng Nga Ching Sara all finished the tournament in Round 1 today.
