Description
Makin joined the world tour in 2013 and has since seen a rapid rise in the world rankings, reaching the top ten for the first time in 2020.
The Welshman continued that rise in 2021, breaking into the top eight at the end of the year.
He started his 2022 campaign with a runner-up finish at the Squash on Fire Open in Washington, before making the quarters of the Windy City Open, Optasia Championships and Canary Wharf Classic. Makin secured the biggest crown of his career later that year, with a victory at the Manchester Open, a World Tour Silver level event, after beating world No.3 Mohamed El Shorbagy of Egypt in four games. The Welshman also captured a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Makin scored another empathetic victory over El Shorbagy, now representing England, this summer when he defeated the former world champion in the British National Championships final. Before that, he also reached the semi-finals of the 2024 British Open but was stopped by world No. 1 Ali Farag.
The Welshman also had an impressive in the new season when he reached the last four in the Qatar Classic in October when Mostafa Asal beat him in four games.
