Joelle King
Description
Joelle King is one of the leading New Zealanders on the world tour and was the champion of the 2018 Hong Kong Open. She has done exceptionally well after coming back from a serious Achilles injury sustained in 2014. She won her first tour title in 2008 at the North Island Championships and followed that up with three further titles a year later. She was elevated into the world’s top 10 for the first time in 2011 and moved into the top five while also claiming the Macau Open in 2012. King brought 2022 to a close in sublime form, making at least the semis of her last five events. She made the last four of the Oracle NetSuite Open, U.S. Open and Hong Kong Open, whilst also claiming two titles. She was a part of the New Zealand team (with Paul Coll) who finished runners-up at the Nations Cup, before she then claimed the New Zealand Open crown on home soil. That was followed by a victory at the Singapore Open just seven days later, her 16th tour title, and her biggest in four years. King made the semis of the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions, Black Ball Open and British Open, before making it to the last four of the World Championship for the first time in her career. Those results in the early part of 2023 consolidated her place as the leading non-Egyptian in the women’s world rankings.
