(29.10.2013) The annual squash extravaganza “Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open 2013” will be staged at Hong Kong Squash Centre and Hong Kong Cultural Centre from December 1 to December 8. The world top 30 players from the Women’s Squash Association (WSA) and the Professional Squash Association (PSA) respectively will once again strive for a lucrative winning purse of HK$1.6 million in the world’s most vivid and energetic city.
Hong Kong Squash Open being recognised as one of the most remarkable and well-organised events, would present the best of the sport to impress the global audience.
The early stages of the tournament will be held at Hong Kong Squash Centre before moving to Hong Kong Cultural Centre for its semi-finals and finals. Ramy Ashour, the current world number one and defending champion, is the first seed of the men’s event. He will be facing one of the qualifiers in the first round. Leo Au the Hong Kong Champion, who halted in the first round last year will enter the main draw via the wild-card again when he will meet the sixth seed Mohamed Elshorbagy from Egypt.
For the women’s event, local heroines, Annie Au, Joey Chan and Liu Tsz Ling, who just won the gold medal of the women’s team event in East Asian Games 2013, will join the top players including Nicol David, Laura Massaro, etc to display their magic-like skills in this world-class event. Joey and Annie will meet the sixth seed Jenny Duncalf from England and the qualifier respectively in first round. Liu enters the main draw with the wild card and plays against third seed Egyptian Raneem El Weleily.
