(1.12.2013) Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open 2013 debuts today at Hong Kong Squash Centre.
With all the twenty-two matches in the Men's and Women’s Qualifying Round One featuring Hong Kong players, the home crowd was happy to see the winnings of Max Lee, Tong Tsz-Wing and Ho Ka Po.
Without surprise, Max Lee, the highest ranked local male player, took down the victory with 11-5,11-3,11-8. And he will be facing Andrew Wahig Shoukry from Egypt 2:15 tomorrow afternoon. Early this year, Max was narrowly beaten by Andrew in five games at Metro Squash Windy City Open.
Tong Tsz-Wing and Ho Ka Po made it a trio of HK players through to tomorrow's qualifying finals, beating Nadine Ayman Shahin from Egypt and Sina Wall from Germany respectively to progress. There was so nearly a forth as Choi Uen Shan took France's Laura Pomportes to a decider and had match ball at 10-9, but the Frenchwoman saved that with a mishit and took the next two points to scrape through.
There were two upsets of the day. One is the beating of Alan Clyne by Lucas Serme, which was also the longest match of the day. Alan from Scotland lost to Lucas from France in five games in 63 minutes. The other one was the loss of Henrik Mustonen to Mahesh Managaonkar.
