(5.12.2013) Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open 2013 comes to its fifth day and all quarter-finalists are confirmed for both men’s and women’s events.
Home interest Annie Au progresses into the quarter-finals after finishing her games against the Englishwoman Emma Beddoes world number 25 in a straight 11-3,11-4 and 11-6 within 26 minutes. “Emma is a very stable player. I have to be focused during the game to play my best to win,” said Annie, who will be facing the world number 2, British Open winner Laura Massaro, who beats Rachael Grinham 11-8,11-7,11-5.
On the other hand, the defending champion Nicol David faces some hiccups while claiming her ninth-time quarter-finalist places in Hong Kong. Dropping the first game to Camille Serme, Nicol comes back to beat the French 3-1. Her next opponent is Jenny Duncalf, who has a tough five-set win over Nicolette Fernandes.
Other quarter-finalists for the women’s event include two Egyptians, Omneya Abdel Kawy and Raneem El Weleily as well as Alison Waters from England and the Indian giant-killer Joshana Chinappa.
For the men’s, the defending champion Ramy Ashour dispatches the qualifier Adrian Waller in a straight. He will meet Borja Golan from Spain in the next round. Other seeded players also through to the quarter-finals without any surprise. The French Gregory Gaultier will meet Tarek Momen while James Willstrop will face another Egyptian Mohamed El Shorbagy. The current World Champion Nick Matthew will encounter another Egyptian Amr Shabana.
The quarter-finals of Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open 2013 will commence at 2pm tomorrow at Hong Kong Squash Centre.
