Apart from the outdoor Squash Carnival held over the last weekend at the HK Park Olympic Square, a Junior Development Clinic and a Celebrity March were successfully completed inside the glass court before the two finals of the “Everbright Securities International Hong Kong Squash Open 2022”.
The Junior Development Clinic with over 300 youngsters was conducted by Mr. Max Lee, the former Hong Kong Men’s Champion. Plus, two world top men’s players, the world no.6 Egyptian Marwan ElShorbagy, and the world no.13, Nicolas Mueller from Switzerland were invited to share their squash tricks and play with the junior players.
Kicking off the Celebrity Match, a warm-up game between TVB artiste, Miss Tiffany Fabienne Kwan and Hong Kong Women’s Champion Tomato Ho were played. The celebrities had been hailed including the Honorable Duncan Chiu, Chairman of Hong Kong Squash, Mr. Norman Chan Tak-lam GBS JP, the former Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Mr. Yeung Tak-keung, the former Commissioner for Sports, and two LegCo members, the Honorable Dennis Lam Shun-chiu, JP and the Honorable Dominic Lee Tsz-king, and lined up with three former Hong Kong Team representatives, Mr. Max Lee, the silver medalist of the men's individual event and Miss Joey Chan, the gold medalist of the women's team event of the 2018 Asian Games, and Miss Liu Tsz-ling, the bronze medalist of the 2016 WSF Women's World Team Championships. The eight celebrities and ex-HK players were divided into two teams namely “Team Champion” and “Team Winner” to play in a special format. It was eventually wrapped up with a tie game 2-2 for both teams to claim the trophy of Celebrity Match together.
