(16.10.2015) Title sponsored by Cathay Pacific and Sun Hung Kai Financial the “Hong Kong Squash Open 2015” as one of the world prestigious sporting extravaganzas will be performed at Hong Kong Football Club, Hong Kong Squash Centre and Hong Kong Park Sports Centre from November 29 – December 6, 2015.
The top 30 players will return to this star- studded World Series Event for a tempting winning purse of HK$1.9 million competing under the men’s and women’s categories in the world’s most hustle and bustle city.
Presented by Hong Kong Squash, Hong Kong Squash Open 2015 recognised as an “M” Mark Event with funding support by the Major Sports Events Committee. Marking the 30 consecutive years of the Hong Kong Open which is well known as one of the most sensational and world-class events, would demonstrate the best squash to delight the worldwide fans.
The qualifying rounds will be kicked off at Hong Kong Football Club whereas the early stages of main draw will be commenced at Hong Kong Squash Centre before moving to the portable glass court erected at Hong Kong Park Sports Centre for its semi-finals and finals.
The current world’s No 1 Mohamed Elshorbagy will top the draw to defense his title taking the challenge from the Englishman Peter Barker in the first round. Nick Matthew, the 2013 Champion, and Gregory Gaultier, the last year’s runner up are the seed No.2 and No.3 respectively.
Max Lee, the Hong Kong leading player, enters the main draw straight against the seed No.7 Omar Mossad on Dec 1 at 7:30pm. Another local star, Leo Au via the wild card will encounter Gregory Gaultier again in the first round on Dec 2 at 7:30pm after the semi-finals of China Open
For the women’s side, since the Egyptian Raneem El Welily occupied the world No.1 in this September; Malaysia’s Nicol David, the 9 times champion, becomes the second seed after dominating the draw for the past eight year. Nicol will be facing Liu Tsz Ling, the wild card holder in the round one on Dec 2 at 6:30pm. Our top women’s player Annie Au, the world No. 10, will then compete with Emily Whitlock in the round one on Dec 2 at 2:30pm.
