(03.12.2015) Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open 2015 comes to its fifth day and the quarter-finalists of both men’s and women’s events are revealed. Men and women top seed, Mohamed Elshorbagy and Rannem El Welily both comfortably sailed through the quarter finals as their opponents, Saurav Ghosal withdrew due to injury while Low Wee Wern retired in the third.
Yip Tsz Fung, the only home player in the round two, played a good show against the seed No.7 Tarek Momen before losing 1-3 to the Egyptian. Leading the first game at impressive 11-4 but losing the following two close sets in 9-11 and 7-11, Yip hang in to fight hard to come back in the forth from 5-9 down to 9–10. However the more experienced Momen is the better player on court this time to end the last game at 11-9. "I learnt a lots from this tournament and the experience boosts my confidence in meeting the top players in the future and I hope I could execute what I have learnt in the next match." Yip said after match.
The defending champion Nicol David confirmed her top eight positions in Hong Kong once again. Without much pressure, she beat her compatriot, Delia Arnold at a straight 11-1, 11-4, 11-3 in 20 minutes. She will meet Joelle King who has struggled through a tough 5 sets against Joshana Chinappa at 9-11, 11-8, 9-11, 12-10 and 11-6 to secure her place in the quarter finals.
Camille Serme, the champion of British Open 2015, dispatched another Indian player Dipika Pallikal at 7-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-8. She along with Laura Massaro, the world No.2, Omneya Abdel Kawy and Amanda Sobhy will compete for the last four places tomorrow.
For the men’s event, most seeded player went through to the quarters with no surprise, the world No.1 Gregory Gaultier from France dispatched the champion of Hong Kong Open 2011, James Willstrop at 3-1 He will meet Cameron Pilley tomorrow. The seed No. 2 Nick Matthew will face Tarek Momen whereas the seed No.4 Miguel Angel Rodriguez will face Omar Mosaad in the quarter finals. The quarter-finals of Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open 2015 will commence at 1:30pm tomorrow at Hong Kong Squash Centre.
