Top Four in Store at Semis

(04.12.2015) The quarter finals of the Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open 2015 at the packed Centre Court of Hong Kong Squash Centre saw the top two seeds in both events through to the semi-finals.

Starting off with Raneem El Welily in today’s quarters, the world No.1 robbed out the U.S No.1 Amanda Sobhy in a quick three nil at 11-8,11-5 and 11-8 to reach the last four for her third time in Hong Kong Open. She will meet the Englishwoman Laura Massaro who pull off the current World Junior Champion, Nouran Gohar in four games tomorrow at 2:30pm.  

Another smeis will be between Nicol David, the nine-time Hong Kong Open Champion and Omneya Abdel Kawy, a repeat of Alexandria International Open 2015. Nicol David make a step closer to her 10th title after beating Joelle King efficiently at a straight whereas Omneya Abdel Kawy outplayed the British Open Champion and seed No.4, Camille Serme at a straight.

For the men’s quarter-finals, Omar Mosaad with his great form since the world Championship stunned the Colombian Miguel Angel Rodriguez in a dramatic affair. Being led by the first two games at a tragic 3-11, 3-11, Mosaad came back steadily to win back the following two sets at 11-9 and 11-9. A real battle occurred in the fifth, Rodriguez was once heading at 10-5 however, Mosaad dug deep point by point and finally made the significant comeback in front of the ecstatic crowd. He will be facing his fellow, Mohamed Elshorbagy who stopped Mathieu Castagnet in the quarters at a straight.

The biggest surprise of today happened in the last men’s quarter-finals. The world No. 24 Cameon Pilley continued his giant killing performances and made the biggest win of his career as he upset the world champion, Gregory Gaultier at a straight 11-9,12-10 and 12-10. “I am glad I beat him as he is the world champion now and it’s definitely my biggest win so far. Tomorrow would be a tough match for me but I would do my best.” Pilley said. He will be meeting Nick Matthew in the semis tomorrow.

The semis and finals of Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open 2015 will move to the glass court at Hong Kong Park Sports Centre. The matches will start from 3pm onwards. All the prime seats tickets have been sold out. If you would like to watch your favourites play on court, come and purchase the very limited general seats tickets as soon as possible.
