(30.11.2015) The men’s and women’s qualifying rounds are completed today after two days of exciting matches with sixteen qualifier are confirmed in one of the most prestigious tournament of the year at the Hong Kong Football Club.Three local qualifying players are successfully proceeded to the main event, it makes Hong Kong have eight players in total to compete in the main draw for the first time in history.
Two young local women’s players, the world No. 61 Vanessa Chu and the world No. 245 Ho Tze Lok both outplayed the higher seed opponents at a straight to advance to the main event for their first time. Chu will meet Heba El Torky in the round one at 2:30pm tomorrow whereas Ho Tze Lok will play against Rachael Grinham at 1:30pm on Dec 2.
Meanwhile, another rising star Yip Tsz Fung won through at a straight 11-4,11-7 and 11-6 to the men’s main event. He is the second male local player after Max Lee to get into the main event through the qualifying rounds. “I am staying focus on the match and hope to give my best of it so I am glad I can make it to the main event.” Yip Tsz Fung will meet Tom Richards from England in the first round at 3:30pm on Dec 2.
The men's and women's main draws will start with the top half tomorrow at 1:30pm at Hong Kong Squash Centre. For the men's, the top seed and the world number one Mohamed Elshorbagy will meet Peter Barker from England at 8:30pm, while the local hero, Max Lee will meet the sixth seed Omar Mosaad from Egypt at 7:30pm at Centre Court.
The women's will start with Joey Chan, who will meet Nouran Gohar from Egypt at 1:30pm. The world No.1 Raneem El Welily will also be featured tomorrow facing the qualifier Siyoli Waters from South Africa at 6:30pm.
