Organized by Hong Kong Squash, sole title-sponsored by Everbright Securities International, the prestigious “Everbright Securities International Hong Kong Squash Open 2022” confirmed returns from 28 November to 4 December at Hong Kong Squash Centre and Hong Kong Park Sports Centre after three years of absence. The press conference was successfully held at the Hong Kong Football Club this afternoon.
The tournament is listed as one of the Platinum events, which is the highest-ranked tournament level of the Professional Squash Association World Tour series. The “Everbright Securities International Hong Kong Squash Open 2022” is proud of being an “M” Mark event that helps enhance the image of Hong Kong as Asia’s sports event capital. The “M” Mark awarded by the Major Sports Events Committee, symbolising intense, spectacular and signature event in the territory sports calendar.
The tournament offers a hefty winning purse of US$340,000 (HK$2.65 million) and it will be featuring 48 players in both Men’s and Women’s draw. The Men’s world No.1, Ali Farag of Egypt, runner-up at the last two Hong Kong Open and world No.2, Paul Coll of New Zealand will be the top and second seed of the event, while the defending champions, Mohamed ElShorbagy, the four-time winner and the Men’s world No. 4 who is now playing for Great Britain will be seeded as the fourth. Besides, 4-Hong Kong Men’s players, the world No.50 Henry Leung Chi Hin and world No. 62 Alex Lau Tsz Kwan will join the battlefield along with the wildcard holders Wong Chi Him and Tang Ming Hong.
For the Women’s event, the Egyptian Nouran Gohar, who is the world No.1 and 2016 champion listed as the first seed and the second seed will be the world No.2 and 2017 Hong Kong Open Women’s champion Nour El Sherbimi and the defending champion, the world No. 5 Joelle King from New Zealand will join the event as No.4 seed. There will be a total of five Hong Kong Women’s players taking part in this year's tournament, with world No.36 Tomato Ho Tze Lok, world No. 45 Lee Ka Yi, world No.57 Tong Tsz Wing and two wildcard holders, Cheng Nga Ching and Fung Ching Hei.

The opening stages of the tournament will take place at the Hong Kong Squash Centre on Cotton Tree Drive in Admiralty, with a glass court set up at the nearby Hong Kong Park Indoor Sports Centre for the quarter-finals stage onward.
