(21.07.2014) The Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Squash Open, one of the most established sporting events in Hong Kong, will return to the vibrant city in August. Squash fans should not miss the opportunity of watching the best players from all over the world play in front of them and display their magic like skills.
Presented by Hong Kong Squash with the support of long-term partners, Cathay Pacific and Sun Hung Kai Financial, the week-long tournament will be held on August 24-31, with the opening stages - from the qualifying rounds to the quarter-finals - to take place at Hong Kong Squash Centre.
The exciting semi-finals and finals will then move to the adjacent Hong Kong Park where a brand new glass court will be set up in its indoor sports centre to give the best possible view for the spectators.
Vying the lucrative winning purse US$220,000 (HK$1.7 million) will be the world's top 30 players, both men's and women's, while hosts Hong Kong will also send their strongest squad as the tournament serves a final build-up for the Incheon Asian Games which will take place in South Korea the following month.
Hong Kong's leading women's player Annie Au Wing-chi has recently regained her top 10 spot in the world rankings, and Au, who lost to Raneem El Weleily of Egypt in the semi-finals last year, will be keen to improve her result, along with fellow teammate Joey Chan Ho-ling as they look forward to a successful Asian Games campaign with other Hong Kong team members.
