The Strongest line-up at Hong Kong Open's Final

(30.08.2014) The men’s and women’s finalists of Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open 2014, are confirmed after four thrilling yet exciting semi-final matches in the brand new portable glass court at the Hong Kong Park Sports Centre today.

Before the semis started, a glass court handover ceremony was held. Mr. David Mui MH, JP, Chairman of Hong Kong Squash expressed his profound gratitude to The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for their long-term support and generous donation. It strengthens the ability of Hong Kong to host major international squash tournaments and to provide more opportunities for boosting the popularity of squash in the community.

The Men’s Semis started first this time with the French Gregory Gaultier playing against the Egyptian Tarek Momen. Unlike the previous good shape and breath-taking performance Momen showed in the earlier rounds, Gaultier compressed him in the whole match and won in straight 11-7, 11-2, 11-3. He recorded an unbeatable strike to get through to this year’s final. Gregory Gaultier will meet the current Qatar Classic Champion Mohamed Elshorbagy at 4pm tomorrow in the Men’s Final.

Mohamed Elshorbagy, who came back from a game down to take over the victory at 11-7,11-5, 7-11 and 11-7. “It definitely boost my confidence after winning the Malaysian’s Open title last week, I will just try to play well and will not give much pressure on it, but I feel it is time to win! " said Elshorbagy who enjoys his ever first final in Hong Kong Open.

For the women’s semi-finals, Nicol David is just a step away from her journey of claiming the ninth successive Hong Kong titles after dispatching the American new comer Amanda Sobhy in a straight 11-8, 11-4 and 11-2 in less than half an hour. “I will enjoy the game as much as I can tomorrow.”  Nicol will start the final at 5pm tomorrow against Nour El Tayeb in Hong Kong Park Sports Centre.

Nour El Tayeb gave the stunning upset today when she defeated the seed No.2 Laura Massaro. Tayeb led the first set at 11-9, then Massaro fought back in the next at 12-10 to make an one-all, but there is nothing to stop the strong Egyptian who took the last two sets at 11-2 and 12-10.
